In Memory of Sherry Robinson

Then and Now

Class of 1984
Courtland High School

        Sunrise, July 13, 1966 – Sunset, March 25, 2008

Sherry Hart (Robinson) Ramos, the daughter of Mr. Clifford Robinson, Jr., and the late Mrs. Barbara L. Robinson, was born in Jacksonville, NC on July 13, 1966. Sherry departed this earthly life on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at her parent’s home in Spotsylvania, VA.

She received much of her education in the public schools of Spotsylvania, VA. Sherry was a 1984 graduate of Courtland High School, where she was proud to be part of the first four-year graduating class of the Courtland Cougars. Following graduation, she joined the United States Air Force.

While serving in the U.S. Air Force and stationed in Florida, she met and married Javier Ramos, Sr. To this union two children, Tiffany Ramos and Javier Ramos, Jr., were born. After nine years of military service, Sherry returned to Fredericksburg, VA to raise her children.

She was a passionate reader and enjoyed mysteries & romance novels. Sherry delighted in the outdoors and traveling, whether it was to the Bahamas or simply to the local beach. She was a sports enthusiast. She enjoyed tennis and golf. Sherry has also “coached” many football and basketball games from her living room. Sherry was employed as a legal secretary with the Law Firm of Parrish, Houck & Sneed PLC, until the cancer in her body and the affect of the treatments would not allow anymore.

Serving the Lord was not new to Sherry. She was kind and would go out of her way to help others. Sherry recently joined Mt. Hope Baptist Church and was baptized.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: one daughter, Tiffany S. Ramos; one son, Javier Ramos, Jr.; her father, Clifford Robinson, Jr.; one granddaughter, Jordyn Amyah Coward, all of Fredericksburg, VA; three aunts, Ruby Little and Beryl Nickols of Durham, NC, & Joyce Davis of Largo, MD; three cousins, Shari Little, Keith Little & Darryl Davis; The Ramos Family of Manhattan, NY, Fort Lauderdale, FL & the Dominican Republic; Special friends, Albert “Moon” James of Reston, VA and Betty Jo Banks of Spotsylvania, VA; and a host of other relatives & friends.

I met Sherry in 6th grade at John J Wright. We were not only friends, but neighbors for many years, until she joined the military after graduation. Her smile, and quick wit made her fun to hang out with and she will be greatly missed. I think of her every time I go to our old neighborhood to see my parents. God Bless you Sherry.

The following “Memorial Tribute to the Fallen Classmates of Courtland’s Class of 1984” was read by Alumnus Charles Anderson, during our Reunion & Dance on Saturday evening, October 17, 2009:

SHORT BY A FEW…

When we graduated in 1984; Life lay before us, there was so much to do; The world was ours to conquer and to explore, that summer evening when we left Courtland’s door.

There were jobs to be found, the military to serve & further education to be had; Followed by someday becoming proud Moms & Dads. Some chose to travel many miles away; And for others, this was the perfect place to stay.

Some may have accomplished most things they had planned; While in other lives, not everything went as they had planned. For some, there were many changes to be made; Including some adjustments along life’s way.

But no matter what, as we gather once more; I will always be proud to be in Courtland’s Class of ’84.

As we renew old acquaintances and reminisce about things we used to do; We will learn the Class of ’84 is sadly, short by a few…

Some classmates have departed this life along the way; And are absent from our 25-Year Gathering here today. Now as their names are read; We will remember things they once did or said. And their faces will become vivid once more; Though they haven’t come through the door…

So let us live our lives; Mindful of the things we say and do; For the next classmate missing may be me or you…

--

At this time, please join me in observing a moment of silence for our Fallen Classmates:

• Faith Betts • Wendi Borders • Stacy Foster • Michael Harmon • John Houck • Dawn Long • Rex Minor • Sherry Robinson • And our fallen Principal, Mr. Robert P. Woods

“We honor you because we were classmates, and we miss you because we were friends…”

If you have not already done so, please take the opportunity to visit our Memorial Table honoring our fallen classmates and Mr. Woods.

Thank you.
